Annual Attendance Report 2003 / 2004 gives first national data on student attendance
Under Section 21 of the Education (Welfare) Act, 2000, each year primary and post-primary schools are required to submit a report on the levels of attendance to the National Educational Welfare Board, the national body with responsibility for following up on school attendance and related matters. A copy of the report must be given to the local parents’ association.
Reports have now been received from most schools for 2003/2004 and the analysis of these is almost complete.
Up to now, there was no national data on the levels of student attendance in our schools and this is the first time that such data has been collected. The data will assist the Board in the planning and development of its services.
