Nuala Doherty, Director of Educational Welfare Services, National Educational Welfare Board
The National Educational Welfare Board (NEWB), the national agency with responsibility for encouraging and supporting regular school attendance, is pleased to announce that it has appointed Nuala Doherty as Director of Educational Welfare Services.
Prior to joining the NEWB, Nuala held the position of Director of Services for children and families in the Health Service Executive NorthEast region with particular responsibility for governance, planning and evaluation of all services for children and families in the Meath, Louth, Cavan and Monaghan, for the past eight years. She also carried responsibility for the management of mainstream residential care and high support services for children and the Education and Training service in the region.
A former clinical psychologist, she previously managed a team of psychologists in Meath Community Care for six years. Prior to that she worked as a clinical psychologist delivering services to children, schools, and communities in Co. Louth and in Temple street children’s Hospital.
Nuala began her career teaching in primary schools and worked in mainstream, remedial and special education. She has a particular commitment to ensuring that children’s individual education, health and development needs are met.
