Parents play a significant role in teaching children and young people about behaviour. The Guidelines recommend that parents be consulted in the development of school Codes of Behaviour and that schools support parents to play a full part in the life of the school. By doing this, schools can support parents to:
- help ensure that students are given consistent messages about how to treat other people and
- reinforce messages about learning and behaviour.
By involving parents in developing the school Code of Behaviour parents will gain an insight into what teachers need in order to teach effectively and give parents a sense of pride in the schools and ownership in its work.
NEWB has consulted with parents and national parent representative organisations in the development of the Guidelines.
