The Game of Giants Makes School Cúl
Every School Day Counts is a joint sponsorship initiative by the National Educational Welfare Board (NEWB) and Cumann na mBunscol, the largest school based sports body in the country.
This year’s tie-up will be launched on 16th April 2008. Armed with a giant sliothar and giant camán in anticipation of the game of giants, the school children from Newtownmountkennedy National School, Co. Wicklow will be joined by a host of GAA stars including one of Dublin football’s top scorers, Conal Keaney, camogie all-star Ciara Lucey and women’s football star Niamh McEvoy.
The purpose of the Every School Day Counts initiative is to encourage sport as an important way of ensuring that children attend school. Sport helps children for life. Learning to compete, being part of team, coping with success and disappointment and being physically active are all essential elements of children’s overall development
This year the NEWB will present Cumann na mBunscol with 2,000 NEWB branded Every School Day Counts sliothars and 2,000 footballs to distribute to schools participating in this year’s hurling and camogie championships.
